Scaly leg mites have been a problem for like 2 or 3 years now and I just can not get rid of them. I know about the classic putting vaseline on their legs, but that's pretty useless considering more will just take their place. I wanna know how to get them out of my coops for good. I tried putting D.E. and Saturday lime down, but I ran out of both and idk if they did anything anyway. I feel like the mites are worse then ever this year, some hens are even starting to have trouble walking.

Give your coop a good clean out and spray it all down with a Permethrin based poultry spray. Make sure to treat roosting bars, nesting boxes and nooks/crannies. Repeat in 5-7 intervals for a few weeks.

Treat your hens with Ivermectin (Dosing is found HERE), be sure to treat once, then repeat in 10-14 days.

Do go ahead and slather on your vaseline, NuStock cream or castor oil too to help smother mites.

Will all this eliminate the SLM for good? Possible, but there's no guarantees. You will likely do well to get on schedule to treat housing regularly. SLM live mainly on the bird, so you may need to continue to apply oil/ointment to the legs on a regular basis to keep them under control.

Sorry I didn't see this for some reason. I will try that as soon as I get the chance!
