How to get rid of Northern mites?

I don’t know much about ducks, but in chickens it’s permethrin. I would think it would be the same.
I believe with those mites, you want to pay particular attention to coop and dirt areas, because they’re nocturnal. They hide in dirt and under boards during the day.

Broodies get them bad due to sitting all the time, best to check all y our other birds and coop too.
Make sure what mite you are dealing with, but permethrin dust and/or spray should take care of them.

Here's some tips:
Have you checked them over real well for mites and/or lice?

Google images of lice/mites and their eggs before the inspection so you'll know what you're looking for.

Part the feathers right down to the skin around vent, head/neck and under wings.

Best done well after dark with a strong flashlight/headlight, easier to 'catch' bird and also to check for the mites that live in structure and only come out at night to feed off roosting birds.

Wipe a white paper towel along the underside of roost to look for red smears(smashed well fed mites).

Oh, and... Welcome to BYC! @Call Ducks For Life
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

WARNING! NORTHERN MITES ARE A VERY EXTREME DANGER! You should isolate the call duck at once. If your others have northern mites you mite have to get rid of or cull the whole flock. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DUCKLINGS. I had a flock a couple years ago that had northern mites, one of my bantam chickens hatched some chicks and duckling, all but one chick survived. DIOTAMACIOUS EARTH DOES NOT WORK VERY WELL, use dog shampoo or expensive mite/lice killer. Isolate the chickens/duck from the coop for at least 4 months. If it is very bad as my case was, butcherin the flock may be needed. I butchered 2 roosters, 4 ducks and 31 hens.
