What would be a good way to go about breeding ginger red d’uccles. I currently have Mille Fleurs (porcelains too) and also some ginger red oegbs as the color donors. While it would seem obvious to just make the F1 crosses using the d’uccles and ginger reds, I’m unsure how the dark brown gene from GRs will react with the Colombian gene. I know that they both are black restrictors and behave similarly, so will it be easy enough to tell who has one or both genes? I also don’t have much experience with IDing base genes and assume I’ll get some first hand experience seeing as I’m going from partridge(right?) to duckwing. I want to document well with pictures to have as future reference.

I have two bbr oegb hens that I could use first to cross out all of the Mille Fleur genes then add the db with the GRs. It could also be useful for any projects that might pop up later to have some bbr d’uccles. I could also go both routes, and do each project side by side. That would increase genetic diversity.

As of right now, this is what I have for roosters and hens.
Roosters
  • 1 Mille Fleur D’Uccle
  • 2 Porcelain D’Uccles (one is sick right now and might not make it, but I’m hopeful)
  • 3 Ginger Red OEGBs
Hens (most are still pullets)
  • 1 Mille Fleur D’Uccle
  • 1 Porcelain D’Uccle
  • 3 Ginger Red OEGBs
  • 2 BBR OEGBs
Any suggestions how I should split them up in the spring for the best outcome?
