How to go about releasing guinea fowl

Try letting one out each day. That way they will stick around to be with their penned buddies, but I wouldn't get my hopes up on them roosting where you want them to.

Also, how long did you have the guineas? If they were new.. keep them confined as long as you can- at least a month. If they were hatched and raised there, you can let them out soon.

Definitely recommend the above advice- let only one out at a time! I personally prefer letting one out and not let another guinea out for 2 days or more. If you want to let them sleep wherever they prefer, do this. Just let one out and keep the others confined for a few days.. then let another one out.. repeat few days.. this is to be on the wayyy safe side is all.

i was able to train my guineas to roost in the coop at night with the chickens. You have to tame them, and work with them. Teach them that its the only place you will tolerate them roosting. reason why they had to be cooped at night was that the coons would eat them.

Your guineas should have been in lockdown in their coop for at least six weeks before you let them out to range or even explore a penned area if you want them to go home at night. After the six weeks just open the door and they will wander out in their own time. Mine live with chickens and I still have to find one and carry her home quite often. Train them with white millet. Give some in the morning when you open the door and some when they come back in. My guins have a different treat call than the chickens so I can get them to come closer to home if they wander too far during the day. We have to get all the other birds in the pen then listen for a buckwheat. She likes to play hide and seek until we find her. Then i wrap her in a towel and carry her home.

i raised mine from keets. when they were bigger- i can't remember how old- i started letting them out about an hour before roosting time. i sat out in the yard and watched them. after 30min to an hour i took a stick and slowly herded them back in. i did this for a few days- week and now they fly out every day and always come back. the only problem is i hate the way they treat my chickens. i wish they would not come back in to roost now. they come and go all day and torment my poor chickens!!!
