Okay--I have 7 Buckeye hens and 3 French Black Copper Marans hens--what I would like to do is give each hen a color coded band of some sort---as I want to name the hens individually---has anyone got a good idea on what to use? I've looked at poultry bands but you have to buy like 50 to 100 of the same color!

Try zip ties. You can get the small ones in several colors. What you don't use for the birds can have a hundred other uses around the house and farm.

I bought bands on ebay for $7.00 assorted colors. They work great and don't bother the chickens at all. They come in different sizes. I have newborn size and adult.

They are easy to put on and remove.

Some people use nail polish but not red because the chickens will peck at it, or zip ties / bread ties

Go to Cutler Supply the have bandetts which are colored and numbered or you can get the spiral plastic bands which are just colors. Bands are sold based on size of birds. So packets are all one size. You can try National Band abd Tag animal to see if they have different size packets.
