Hello,

I live in PA and had two chickens who passed away. Yesterday I got 6 new Black Australorp hens (about 16 weeks old). My problem, they all look the same and I want to be able to tell one from another. Is there an easy way to identify them that won't hurt them?

Leg Bands would do the trick.....

Thanks - where does a person get leg bands? Are they hard to put on?

You can use small colored wire-ties or zip-ties as they are sometime called. Just leave them a little loose on the leg and they last a looooong time!

You mean the plastic ones right - that once you tighten they don't back up?

We use zip ties and keep an eye on them.
we replace them every few weeks on young birds. Keep them loose and cut off the ends.

from WI. You can also check farm or feedstores or check online...just google legbands, they come in different sizes and usually there is a listing as to breeds and size band. They come in various colors
