Hello everybody,
Our poor hen Razlog has bumblefoot. I took her to our local vet, who didn't seem to be very familiar with hens, gave her antibiotics, and told me that I should take her back for an x ray if its not better in 2 weeks. I'm sorry to say it but I am a bit dubious about her hen expertise. Anyway I am now treating Razlog at home and after a lot of soaking, the kernel came out, we're changing the dressing every few days, and I am hoping she's on the mend now.
My question to this forum is about her eggs. The vet told me that nobody can eat her eggs for 2 months. There are 3 other hens and they are all free range. Is there any way we can somehow identify which eggs are Razlog's? We don't want to separate her because we have done this in the past with another hen, and it resulted in the hen being henpecked when they returned to the flock. Can we feed her some kind of harmless natural dye that makes her egg blue or something?? Currently we are either throwing out all 4 eggs every day, OR we have to watch them all like hawks and grab the egg from under each hen whenever they lay, which is very time-consuming!
I must say I am not hopeful that my natural dye idea is a reality as I can't find anything online about this, but please could somebody confirm this is wishful thinking or even come up with a better idea!
Thanks,
TP
