It's an old window I picked up from the local Peddler's Market for $5...It's just a large single pane in a wood frame24"x24"...I can't think of how to install it and make it waterproof other than a ton of silicone afterwards...Any tips?...

What we did was built the frame 1/2" larger than the window. We put the siding on the outside (we used chip board) and then cut the window opening about 1 1/2" smaller than the frame opening. DH used lots of silicone and slid the window in the opening from the inside. The silicone does a good job of holding it in and seals out air. We then added strips of wood on the inside. (we had 1/4 round left over from another project)

Here's a pics:

After the window was done we put hardware cloth over the inside to keep the girls away from it and used strips of chip board to screw it on and cover the edges.

We bought some used window panels and put 9 windows in the coop for lot's of light and veiwing area. They don't open. We did buy 2 small windows that do open and then we added ventilation openings.
This pic shows th other wall finished: (almost...still needs paint LOL)

Here are some pictures of some windows I installed. They were all different. I don't know if it will help. I sealed around them with silicon.

I also used recycled windows. However, now I wish I had not. One reason is, it still has to be covered with hardware cloth anyway, to keep the coons out.

I have seen, here on BYC, what I like better is .... simply, openings between the studs covered with hardware cloth. No measuring to do, no studs to cut, and it doesn't matter what size! Just a hole with hardware cloth!

Then, just fashion some type of "window covering," to be used in harsh weather. This can be as simple or elaborate as you want. I like the ones that are a piece of plexiglass and slides over the opening. I also like the ones that are like a picture frame, and can be hung on hinges, to open horizontally or vertically.

I'm sure not much help, on how to hang a window, am I !
