Hi everyone,
I'm so sad to say I lost one of my two new chicks today. Starting with an empty yard, two weeks ago, I added a new flock of five Comets on a Saturday, and then two EE's on a Wednesday and for one week I brought the EE's back in at night because they were younger and it was colder than normal here at night last week. No sign of trouble, just the occasional peck if the EE got under foot.
Two days ago I put the EE's in the coop at night and they have been co-existing for two days now - with no sign of trouble, just the occasional peck. Then today, the Comets turned on both EE's, killing one. I have separated the remaining EE for now and need to figure out a way to add her back in.
The Comets are 4 months and the EE is 5 weeks.
Given the behavior of the "new" flock of seven for a week now, I really didn't see this coming.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, I feel awful.
Kristen
