I apologize if there is already a thread for this issue; I've searched several times & been unable to find answers to my particular questions. First off, we have 3 grown silkies (2 females, 1 male) & the white female has been broody for (maybe) about 3 weeks now. We candled her egg & it is fertilized, so we let her keep it. Our other Silky lives by herself in a desperate coop because the other 2 pick on her; the coop is an old bathroom cabinet handy husband repurposed, with no fencing, etc because she is very docile. We have been raising 2 Ameraucana's (sp?) & 2 Speckled Sussex in the house for about a month. They are beyond ready to go to the main coop but we're unsure how to do it. We tried the dog crate tip we saw on here, put the chicks in a portable pet carrier & they spent an afternoon in the coop. As soon as we put 1 Sussex loose in there our rooster pecked her. He's usuallyfriendly & sweet, and he's been around the chicks before so we're guessing it's because Barb (the white silky) is broody? We don't really have a way to close off part of our coop and I'm afraid if we just toss them in they won't defend themselves & may end up dead. Should we move the broody hen to the small coop? Move the rooster into the small coop? Very open to suggestions, we need all the help we can get!! Sorry this was so long & most likely confusing.
Thank you thank you!!!!
