Hi, I am planning to hatch some duck eggs under one of my broody hens but I have a question. The hen is in a separate coop right now but is still in the same run so any of my other chickens or ducks can still go in with her. I am looking to hatch 5 or 6 ducks from under her. I'm wondering if my drake will attack the ducklings when they are born and as they are growing. Where the eggs will be hatched is connected to my main run. So i'm wondering what my drake will do when the hen brings her babies out of the coop for the first. Do I need to close them off so the drake can't get to them, but if I do that then how will they ever learn the ways of the coop from the hen? Thanks for any advice at all!

Yes, I would expect the drake to attack the ducklings.

There will be time for the ducklings to learn their way around once they are bigger.
