my relatives gave us there lonely hen who survived 6 months without a flock and she barely had a touch of frostbite but survived -7 degrees in Richmond VA only perching on a fence she is STRONG but not strong enough to fight off my 10 other chickens who want to kill her right now I have her in a small coop but I don't want to keep her locked up forever she needs to be part of my flock what should I do PLEASE HELP!!

Put her in a dog crate in the chicken run for at least a week maybe even two. Then after a week when there’s a nice day let them all out to free range together and see how they react. Maybe get 2 or 3 more chickens to add as well. If you can introduce the lone chicken to the 2 or 3 chickens successfully then when you introduce all of them to your 10 hen flock the newbies will have safety in numbers.

Introducing chickens for my flock is hard. I have some aggressive breeds & almost no time to supervise them. I have a large dogcrate I put into the yard with plenty of food & water and leave the chicken that is being introduced in it for a few hours at a time. I like to take the cage in & out. This is to prevent the hen from being stressed too much. I'm sure there are plenty more wonderful ways that the nice people of BackyardChickens have posted, and trying more than one won't hurt. Good luck!

We did a dog kennel outside of our chicken pen when we got our new lady to introduce. We only have 3 other hens though, and only one who is aggressive. We kept her in the dog kennel, let them out together only outside the chicken pen, heavily supervised with my husband and I both outside, and put about an entire bag of sunflower seed on the ground to attempt distracting Rutabaga (our head hen). After about 2 weeks they aren't exactly friends but they tolerate her, I say they are jealous because she is beautiful (golden laced wynadotte)! She is now allowed in the coop, in the pen, and even in the nesting box. We added a nesting box, and a second feeder to attempt keeping some space between them.
