Have some chickens that are about 6 months old and some that are 4 months old. What to put them all in the same pen but everytime I try to put them together on of the older roosters almost kills on of the younger roosters. He gets him down and starts pulling and biting him on the neck until feathers are everywhere. I have 7 older chickens and 3 younger ones.

I have read in many places that people will keep the chickens in seperate pens but close so the can see & get use to each other. Hopefully someone more experienced than I will answer because I would like to hear others ideas also as I will soon be doing the same... though, I don't have to worry about any rooster let alone more than one!!! That just sounds like it would be a difficult thing, even if they grew up with each other.

Right now the only thing that keeps them apart is a fence.
So they have been seeing each other for months. When I try to put them in the same pen that when the fighting begins.

Others say to wait and put them together after dark when they have gone to roost, then they wake up not knowing any difference.
