how to keep bedding out of water

Put the water up a little higher. Mine get a little in there. About once a day I find poopin there too. I change the water about 5 times a day.

My water is on a double 2x4 so it's about 3.5" high and still gets bedding in it. There is no way to stop it in a brooder. Once they go out side I have a bucket with watering nipples which should stop this.

For now I just change the water a couple times a day.

Yep, that is how it is here. They are still in the brooder so I am not sure how I can raise it?? I have chicken wire over the brooder and have to move that out of the way to get to the feeder and waterer and the chicks. I will see if hubby can find me a board to put across the top of the brooder to 'tie' the waterer to. Hope that will work.

I use 2x4 wood blocks under mine. I also use the food feeder vs the watered dish. I switched them around and use the waterer for their food. It seems to help.

My waterer (dish type) only has 1 hole in it, would enough food get out for them to eat if I switched them? I think I may just have to buy a new waterer altogether.

I am re-thinking the board across the top of the brooder because I wouldn't have a way to actually hang the waterer. I am using a jar right now. Hmmmm, I need to go visit a friend who may have some feeders and waterers for me so that I don't have to buy anything else.

My biggest problem was keeping the waterer level to prevent spilling. I made a platform and then place it on bricks as the birds grow.
When they're big enough I go to a hanging waterer. It's almost impossible to keep everything out but putting it as high as possible helps a lot. I put the lip about as high as their backs.

I put mine up on a 2x4 with a plate under it.... Yup still shavings and now they are scratching a lot in there so I placed a small cooking pan 10x10 or something like that and placed it on top of that. Now very little shavings get it in. But they do love to fly on top of it and poop in the water.

I made nipple waterers out of a vinegar bottle and a water bottle for my brooders. They work well, though the water bottle one is way too small now, as I'm refilling it 2-3 times a day. But at least it's clean! I was changing water every hour or more when I had the other type.
