How to keep chicken water from freezing without any cost

It is supposed to snow tonight meaning it’ll be below freezing and I’m trying to find a way to prevent my chicken’s waters from freezing but without having to buy an expensive water heater.

For overnight? No need for water in the coop. Just get to them first thing in the morning with fresh warm water.... if you’re home, go out every few hours and add warm water to thaw it out.

Just because it's going to snow, doesn't mean it'll get cold enough to freeze your waterer.
But yeah, remove it overnight.
...or have two waterers and swap them out as needed.

There are some DIY options out there - one I've tried is the old lamp/cookie tin heater, works for me in Texas: https://the-chicken-chick.com/make-cookie-tin-waterer-heater-under-10/
I've also seen something similar using a concrete block, and read where a small insulated ice chest will resist freezing, but haven't tried those.

I haven't invested in the deicer yet so I just bring the waterer in overnight when it's going to freeze.

If I were to get freezing temperatures during the daytime I'd have to swap out waterers ever few hours.

I use a pot style waterer in winter so I can just break the ice on top. This works down to about 20degrees F.

I put a little apple cider vinager in my water it’s good for them. I also hang the water in the roost area where it’s warmest. It has only started to freeze once and that’s because the water was low. If I keep it medium to full it seems ok so far. I live in Ohio. BTW

I read here once about digging a hole (if you have a dirt floor) filling hole with horse manure and putting waterer on that....

Cheap, unless you need to buy a horse first.
