How to keep guard geese? Pairs? Trios?

Im thinking of guard geese for mostly alarm calls for chickens, and hope their big bulk will scare some hawks away. Stray dogs are another story. So should i get goslings and have them imprint on me, or should I keep them with a broody hen and let them grow up like that? Two females? A female and male?

Hi, As someone has to protect the goslings till they are adults getting a broody hen to rear them is an excellent idea. That way you won't have to keep them under lights indoors where they create the most extrordianry mess augh til you can give them trips outside where you have to stay with them the whole time. So Unless you have way more time than I did the broody hen is the go. While it was satisfying to rear them from 3 days old they got us up every 2 hours at night to clean their water and top up their food. I wouldn't do it again. I'de get a mating pair so you can have a flock and sell any extras later.

If your just wanting them for alarms I'd get a couple young males. Like over half grown. Chinese are the loudest.
