How to keep hawks at bay?

Around here it's illegal to disturb the birds of prey. You aren't supposed to do anything to change their behavior unless they are attacking your pet or livestock. It's pretty dumb in my opinion. Even if they have your pet in their hands you can't shoot them legally you can only hoot holler and throw stuff I am guessing. That is according to what our neighbor said and she used to work at AC

As you are young and have plenty of time to do this, if your planning on always having birds, plant some pecan trees, the trees attract crows, and crows hate hawks and will run them off

I have one of these large owl 'spinners' planted in the middle of the field next to my coop and run.............for when my chickens free-range there.
I have lots of hawks, and even bald eagles here, and my chickens are pretty 'out in the open' when they free-range........and, so far so good with the
owl 'spinner'.................

Where did you get the owl spinner? I think that is what I need. i had 3 crows that i had raised thet would stay around the yard and keep the hawks at bay, but they are not coming sround as much anymore since they found mates! Since then i have lost 2 hens within a day of each other to hawks and now there is another smaller hawk hanging around. I put a decoy owl and crow on top of the coop, but I like the spinner...maybe with some cd pieces hot glued to the spinner!

I wanted to thank you all for the tips, All of my pens are covered except my big turkey pen and since we've never had Hawk problems in there, I figured they were scared of the turkeys, so I put a bunch of old hens in there that I am trying to sell and today a hawk killed one of them and another young one that was ranging out in the woods. I'll try the foil thing.

The best way to get rid of thim is to trap thim. If you are loose"n birds thats the only way to get rid of thim. Put a small sig sping or jump trap on a pole or 2x4. set it up next to your pen an they will lite on it. Hawks are so thick wer i live ther is no rabbits or qual....I wish you good luck..

Sorry to say I do not believe you can protect your tumblers from hawks . Most of the tips are for deterring hawks from ground attacks only . I would not be too surprized if their tumbling rolls , that appear as if they are already wounded , invited an attack from any bird of prey within eyesight .
