Hi all!
I live in Queensland Australia and at the moment we are having a cold snap which is lowering our temperatures (particularly at night) dramatically compared our normal winters. With temperatures as cold as 3 degrees (that's freezing for where I live) that our chickens have never had to deal with before I'm worried they will be cold during the night. They are in a partially enclosed sleeping area but the younger girls like to sleep on a perch that is more in the open. However both of these areas would be very chilly especially if there was any wind! Does anybody have any tips for easy ways to keep chickens warm on cold nights? Willing to make just about anything but obviously I can't make any alterations to the pen etc. because they would overheat in summer. Thanks!

This is what some chicken owners do who are concerned about cold.

They should huddle together and be fine. Chickens can fluff up and keep body heat in the same as wild birds that are being subjected to this cold snap as well.

I would feed extra corn to give them an advantage dealing with the cold snap.

I enclose my run in clear plastic tarps for the winter. It practically eliminates the wind in the run. My run is roofed and I leave a gap at the roof line for ventilation. I can easily lift or remove the tarps as the weather changes.
