How to keep my free-range chickens from pooping on my deck, porch, and driveway

I had a similar set up, and the same problem. My birds now have a nice large run and I have a poop free porch. Wet chicken poop is slicker than snot and it only took once of slipping and falling in to change my desire to free range.

Well, I'm totally regretting teaching mine to stay off the deck. Went outside yesterday late afternoon, and one duck and four of this particular flock are missing. Broad daylight, no carcasses, just a few feathers. It was a good sized duck, so I think fox.

This didn't happen until they stopped chilling out for the afternoon on the deck.

Fox might have still gotten the duck, but three of the chickens were a rare breed and one my favorite pullet. I feel sick.

I use my australian shepherds to herd my flock back to the field when they get near the house/deck

Flemmingfarms, I feel ya! I just finished sweeping our huge porch and driveway. Now I'm asking the same thing! We have tried spooking them some but I think I will get a super soaker and a can of rocks. Good luck with yours!

As per the electric netting- you don't need to fence your entire six acres. Get two units. It is easy to connect them. Put them where the chickens like to go the most, other than your porches. Gradually move the fencing so they get to have fresh grass. You will find ways to do this without having to pull up every post and drag the fencing and resink the posts. This is what I have done.

You may only need to keep some of your flock fenced, the ones who find your porch attractive.
