how to keep my water clean in my breeding pens

so the tittle says it all in my breeding pens the chickens keep geeting wood chips and stuff in the water and the water is always dirty which is not healthy for the chickens any ideas would be nice

1. Raise the waterer.
2. Build something around the waterer to keep dirt, shavings, etc. away.
3. Switch to watering nipples, watering cups, etc.

accentonhakes pretty much summed it up with the perfect answer. i keep mine on a cinderblock on its side and it keeps most of the stuff out.
