How to keep predators from taking eggs.

Chicken wire is not predator proof but electric wires help. I have my pens covered and find very few eggs in the pens. Every once in a very great while but my birds mostly lay in their nest boxes. Crows and Ravens will get into uncovered pens and take any eggs that are on the ground. Hawks, eagles and owls prefer chicken.

Thanks for the info and pic. My hens sometimes lay their eggs on the ground in the open in the yard. They aren't protected at all.

Eventually your birds will probably be discovered. Most people who let their birds free range wherever will eventually loose one. That's why I don't anymore because of losses from predators in the past. Most predators will strike when you least expect it and will lurk looking for an opportunity and you probably won't know or see them until after they strike. I went quite awhile before my birds were discovered. I bought some game cameras and put them up on my property and was surprised at the predators that roam here mostly at night. Now is the breeding season for many so they may be out during the day looking for mates and then when they have their young they may be out more looking for food for their young. I love my cameras. Good luck and have fun...
