how to make a cement bird bath out of a leaf :) pic heavy

I've seen those before and always wanted to make one but didn't know how!
Where do you get the non-toxic cement stain?

Thanks for sharing that - this site is very inspirational.

I love your garden too!

Beautiful piece! Ya'll need to do an internet search for hypertufa - it's similar to the above and there are tons of websites to show you different cement formulas and designs. Very messy, but very addictive! I especially like the cement mix with lots of peat and perlite - looks like lava stone when you're done. I made an English trough out of 2 cardboard boxes and filled it with flowers to give to my best friend for her b'day. Here's just one site of many:

Very nice!!

I had some leftover mixed concrete from pouring a driveway last summer and made a similar bowl but put the rhubarb leaves on the outside (used a huge stainless steel bowl for the shape). It worked OK, but the rocks in the in mix negatively affected the look and any thin portions along the edges broke off.

What kind of cement mix did you use?

I have read that the kind with fiberglass fibers mixed in for support work best for thin projects, but have not tried that.

I used regular cement more like stucco, the ones with the little rocks not the big ones the edges are fragile I try to make it as thick as possible, so far I have a few around the garden, some I dont make stands for and put them ontop of old tree stumps and such, its been a few years and they have held up with limited fading as well.

Thanks ahappychick I'll check it out.

What colors are used on the birdbath? They are stunning.

I once bought a small birdbath at a Gardening Show in Atlanta with beautiful shades of voilet but the colors come off.

Look good nice job
I made some last year from elephant ear and large hosta leaves and it was very messy but a lot of fun and they truned out great. Plan on making more this year. What type of cement did you use I used thin set mortar in white.

I am thinking if I were to place a ruhbarb leaf on a piece of saran wrap and place a moist paper towel on the leaf and gently roll it it might make it to you in OK shape...

my my leaves are still small give it a month...hopefully they will be big enough by then

That would probably work! I would GLADLY pay you for your troubles and shipping!!!!

If you can think of a way to ship the rhubarb, I'd gladly pay for that too!!! Oh I miss good rhubarb!!!
