how to make a hen go broody?

I've read lots of posts about breaking hens of broodiness... but is there any way to encourage a hen to go broody? I just bought a couple of silkies hoping that they would be my natural incubators, and I'm wondering if I have to just wait and see, or if there's some trick to encouraging them to set eggs.

Wait and see. We thought we had a RIR going broody so we put some golf balls under her.

She was off of the nest today and just deposited one of her own with the balls.

Let nature take it's course.

There is no way to force Broodiness, but you have just bought the best natural incubators there are, be patient. In a few months your next post will be how to break them of that, the love to go broody.

for a silkie just let the eggs colect and they will sit on them ... that what a local lady here uses ... she said they are better than her best incubator
