Copper maran hens are approx 4yo. Have been healthy until latterly we've had regular soft shells, shells with dark imperfections/scab type marks, or very very thin shells which crumple when they lay them or you go to pick one up. They have growers and layers pellets available in their coop, oyster shell in a seperate pot, and the occasional cuttlefish bone picked from the beach and boiled! I'm not sure when this hen last laid as with the regular broken (and then eaten) eggs it's been hard to figure out how many are being laid a day.

5 day ago I noticed a big yucky mess under one of my copper maran hens perch position. Picture 1. I could tell which hen this was from as all seemed well.

2 days ago one hen was sitting in the run with her eyes closed, didn't move if the other chickens or I came close. I had seen her eating and drinking that day but mainly sitting with her eyes shut. She went to roost about 3 hrs earlier than the rest. Yesterday I didn't see her as I wasn't at home in daylight.

This morning a big mess under the perch and she hadn't come out the house by 9.30. I helped her off the perch and she very slowly walked down the ramp to the corner where I've seen her just sitting or standing before with her eyes shut. She's been standing here most of the day today. These 2 poos near her on the floor in the run. Cockerel seems a bit concerned about her today and doesn't let the other hens near her.

I would like to know if I can do anything to help her.

Much the same today very slow out of the coop. Not interested in any vitamin water or wet food offered to her. Let the chickens in the main garden and she has come out and is either sitting by our patio wall or in the herb plot. And same big yellow/wet poo mess in the coop same as previous night.

Other 11 chickens appear fine, can't see any mites in the coop, or unhealthy poops. The broody hen has just returned to lay today too

The same type of yellow watery poop mess under her in the perch again, it's a lot. And she does smaller amounts of this poo throughout the day, almost just leaks out of her when she moves, doesn't look like she goes to much effort to do it. She doesnt apoear to be swollen down below, crop geels pretty empty and shes lost weight. She has some feather loss around her neck too.
I can tell she isn't laying now, at least the last 3 days she hasn't laid.
She continues to walk around very slowly, tries to eat food but almost looks like she can't see properly or isn't pecking at the food properly when she gets there. Won't take anything i offer her separately, only eats if she's near the other hens and hears them eating. She does drink water

Would love some advice if anyone knows if I can do anything to help her today. I am away for the next 6 days and my in laws won't help much. Just pop in for eggs food and water.

I’m sorry you haven’t gotten any responses. Put “vent gleet” into the search on the top of the page and see if that matched her symptoms. I can also tag a couple people @Eggcessive @Debbie292d
Thank you. I'll search that now. She's no better today. Slowly walks around, drinks water and eats very little.

Her vent is a bit poopy from his runny yellow stuff she's passing, otherwise clear looking.
She went up to roost about 6pm again.
I'll see her in the morning briefly first thing but then I'm away for 6 days. 😞

If it is vent gleet I don’t know if there’s much that can be done unfortunately. Let me tag someone else. I am not an expert on sick chickens but I amer bummed you’re not getting more help @Wyorp Rock
I've had a read and will check her vent again tmw 🤷‍♀️ from memory it doesn't exactly look like the pictures I've seen just now.
Other chickens all look ok so far.

Why does someone always get I'll just when I'm going away 😬

Thanks very much 👍
