Our girls are 5 weeks old and its coming time to switch them from their medicated chick/starter to grower feed. How should I switch them over? Mix the two feeds? If so, what percentages or proportions? And over what time span? We have 4 Buff Orpy hens, 4 SL Wyandotte hens, and 1 SLW rooster. (Standards)

Any advice is most appreciated, thank you!

We use a 75(medicated) - 25 (grower) mix in the feeder. then the next time you fill the feeder use 50 - 50. then next time 25 - 75. this should change them to the grower over the course of a few weeks without causing distress to their tummies.

Thank you very much, that is exactly what I had in mind.

I did use the search engine and hum...., I see this topic has many varried opinions!

The recommendation on by the manufacturer, Nutrena, is 0-6 weeks for the medicated chick starter.

I prefer your advice of mixing over the course of several weeks. It just makes common sense.

Thanks again.
