How to move cross country with my girls

I am moving in a couple of weeks and want to take at least 6 of my backyard flock with me. Anyone done this? My biggest question is them bring on the trailer at night in hotel parking lots....or should I take them into the room? They will be sleeping anyway. Hotel recommendations? Any tips....and not the tip of "rehome them" doesn't help.

Large dog crate not metal ones, plastic like you take to the vet. Going to put in a nesting box to help them feel cozy and not shift around too much
