How to prevent a feeder from overflowing

I'm going to build a chicken feeder, meant to store lots of food at once (40-80lb). The design is like a silo-like structure, with a box under it. I'm attaching a door near the bottom of the "silo" and it pours into the box underneath. The box is level to the "silo" but I can't think of a way to prevent it from overflowing when I open the door. Any ideas? Thanks!

That wasn't my question. It's that if I fill the silo, everything will go into the box underneath, and overflow the box causing the feed to lead out onto the ground. How do I prevent this?

Make the top of the 'door' shorter than top of the box underneath.
You don't need a very big 'door' for the feed to spill out enough for the chickens to eat.

Might be a good idea to post a pic...have you already built it and it's not working right or are you still planning??

There's lots of examples of bulk feeders on this site.
