How to prevent coop from getting dusty?

Whenever I see this thread pop back up, I keep wanting to reply:

How to prevent coop from getting dusty? .... Don't put chickens in it.

eventually, the 'snarky' in me won out.
Yeah, it would also cut down on the amount of chicken poo I clean in the coop, so it might be a solution...

Of course my spouse would worry...

If I stop putting chickens in the coop, I'll put them in the house.

Oh my! Look at your chicken sitting next to you at the computer!!! How does one accomplish this? Wait, forget i asked. I may value my marriage more than my chickens. I think.....🤔

Sometimes I love my spouse more... But sometimes a tiny bantam can be a lovely companion when my spouse makes a mess and then goes to work leaving me to deal with it...

She is my house hen because she had several health issues and now she just knows how to behave, and I am her indoor flock so she naps next to me.

Honestly, except for poo she is smarter about my routine than the dog. I keep a roll of TP nearby and a plastic bag lined garbage can. She probably could have gone back to the coop yesterday but I am looking for a job and she keeps me company while I update CVs and look for ads online. Emotional-Support-Hen... It is nice to be needed by someone easy to please... sometimes that is what a spouse is not.

Oh Michele, your such a love. I agree/understand with everything you said. Thank you for sharing. I had a hen about 8 months old that managed to get her rose comb stuck in the run hardware cloth and rip 95% of it off. She stayed inside for a full week. In the evening when hubby and I were at our computers situated on each side of the room, she would lay right in the middle of the room between us. Fortunetly her poops were formed. She was in fact a good housemate as well. Just wanted to follow me around. She recovered and the comb now looks, well, unique.

I am sorry she went through that. It must have bled terribly! I had a Tom (turkey) who broke a big piece of his beak when he got it caught in a hardware cloth. I still shudder thinking about it. His beak grew back (eventually) but he was my boy and I suffered to see him like that.

(On her following you about when she was a house guest)
They need a flock... If there isn't a hen about, a human will do.

When Robin (my little Leghorn from the picture) was ill (2 yrs ago now) she used to nap on the floor near our great big black dog (the hen is an especially small white bantam leghorn and the dog a Bull-Mastif who weights 140lbs! ). If the dog went into another room the hen would follow and lay down very slowly and quietly like she didn't want to be kicked out. She really needed a companion.

This time she has adopted me (likely because I put her food and sleeping blanket on my desk which is warmer than the floor at this time of year.)

I know she has to go back... I know mostly because my spouse says so when he gets home, but lately he leaves for work at 6am and comes back at 9pm... So she has more say because she spends the day with me. :plbb

The only thing that actually works.

I do see minimal dust in the Open Air coop and in Camp Cockerel, which both have moist deep litter rather than dry Deep Bedding.
