How to prevent over mating?

It’s mating season again, you know what that means! Last year, my rooster Candy was mating almost every minute with the hens. This left my hens almost naked all winter. I have a new rooster now named Rim and I’m worried that he’ll do the same to his hens. So, how do I prevent this from happening again?

Generally older roosters are not as active as younger roosters are. Hopefully Rim is a more mature bird. Separation from the flock allowing 'conjugal' visits if you want fertile eggs would lessen the damage.

It can depend on the individual bird and how randy they are. Technique matters too, as well as having enough girls to share the love with.
I only have one rooster and 15 hens and he is the best boy ever. Mates very gently and not excessively.
Hopefully your new one will be polite and not too crazy.
You may want to get some hen saddles to have on hand in case he has favorites.
