I have lost 6 of 8 of my 15 week old chicks to what I assume might be cocci? No blood to be seen yet, but that's my best guess. They have had stunted growth from the get go, and just started dying all of a sudden over the weekend. Anyway, I should be able to get some Corid today (the only place that carries it was out of stock) to treat my remaining 4 older hens and the 2 chicks (although at this point they are still so small I'm thinking if they ever attempt to start laying that's going to be the end of them anyway... not sure what to do at this point). When the first 4 died I assumed it was a snake b/c of the limited amount of "evidence" (one had been swallowed up to it's wings then spit out, those were the only signs) so I moved them to a temporary makeshift pen under the nesting boxes in my other coop with the older hens. The original coop for them was a hoop coop on bare ground. Eventually I would like to get some more chicks (sooner rather than later, likely through somewhere like McMurray since our local F&S is done for the season). I know I need thoroughly clean out and bleach everything, but what else? Is there any way to know that it's "safe" for them, or is it going to be a gamble either way. I will for sure get them vaccinated for it, but from what I understand that's not a guarantee that they will be protected.

Thoughts? Tips? Advice?
