They are great because they thaw really fast and are easy to get the slush and trash out...a good squeeze and they self clean! Well for the day...i clean weekly in the dish washer. They function the same way as the normal little red chicken waters...they screw on the bottom and there is a little gap and as water level goes down it refills from the bottle (which is upside down) Anyways...everyone gets binches of bottles so you just save some up...if they freeze solid you just have an extra inside and poof fast water changes. They even come with a spring to hold to the side of the cage...use the 8-20 oz size bottles any bigger and they fall over! Also do get more springs...nothing worse than shooting a spring across the coop and not having a back up...I do silly things...if you are more careful you won't need extras but my boys help me and they make me look down right careful...which I am not
