i hope i post this in the right thread . Last month Houdini our 3m old rooster started limping so i brought him inside until he was better. Per the advice of someone in a chicken group on Facebook,i was told to set his crate inside of the coop until the flock lost interest, then sneak him in at night.3 Days later he escaped his crate ...hence his name. He mostly kept his distance from the flock. They would peck at him from time to time but then he started following around one of the groups,so i thought things were going good. Yesterday we find him laying on the floor of the coop and it appeared his head had been pecked. After a few hours he was up and eating and drinking. I am keeping him inside until he is better but now I’m worried about how to bring him back into the flock so this doesn’t happen again. I do not have a way of creating a separate run for him.

Ouch! I'd keep in out there in an escape proof cage, until he's recovered, and then carefully release him and watch how things go. You may have one grumpy individual, or he may have been rude to somebody and been corrected too severely.
Is he a Silkie, or some more fragile breed? That's another situation that won't go well.

I actually don’t know the breed, i do know he not a silki . We only have one cage unfortunately , maybe my husband can put some sort of mesh over it so he can’t escape .

How did he get out of the crate?
Best bet is to put him and his crate back into coop for a few weeks before allowing him out with the flock.

Knowing more about:
your flock size(numbers, ages, genders),
your coop(size in feet by feet with pics),
might offer clues to other solutions.

I actually don’t know how he got out of the crate . It’s a medium size dog wired crate . He is only 3 months old so he is smallish .

As far as my flock i have 12 chickens . 2 if which are 6 months old and the hens range in age from 3m old to 1 year . I don’t know the dimensions of the coop , it is on the larger size . Half of them sleep inside the coop while the rest of them roost in the enclosed outside area of the coop
Poor little guy...

I really feel bad for him . We did have a SUPER aggressive rooster ( leader of the pack ) that we parted ways with yesterday . So i am hoping

I meant to say 2 if them are roosters that are 6m old
