How to read a syringe

Very good!
Thank you for sharing this.
Your very welcome. I am still trying to make sure there's no hope for my girl. Don't have the equipment to cull yet. The last thing I feel fits her symptoms was Water Belly. I bathed her today and then attempted to drain her. Her backside looks dark, kind of like a bruise. She's been crated inside for the past 3 days so she hasn't been moving around much. She is still not eating enough. Once I cleaned the area and inserted the needle a reddish liquid came out in a few drops then stopped. I tried to express with a syringe but the stopper was very hard to pull back so I didn't force the issue. Here are the pics of what little liquid I got out and of her backside. When I expressed the syringe onto a puppy pad, I noticed there is some solid matter in the liquid. Is this from infection? Possible EYP? That is what I have been treating for as she fit all, but the strange stance symptoms. She was treated for laying 2 lash eggs last month and just finished another round of antibiotics with no real improvement. Feathers are matted because she is still a little wet. She isn't drinking on her own, but is picking at a zuchinni and ate a couple of bites of tomato this morning. Won't eat her feed. I have another thread in this section on trying to figure out what is wrong with her if you need more information. I would appreciate any advice you can give me. TIA!

I would take a guess that the material you pulled out was some lash material. She likely has Lash in the abdomen if she's been passing Lash eggs too. The material can end up in the abdomen due to reverse peristalsis.

The color of the fluid is not very promising. It could be that you hit a blood vein, but the color is a bit off for that imho.

Unfortunately, sometimes the best we can do is offer supportive care and once they decline to a certain point, kindly put them down.

I use the broomstick method on laying hens to put them out of their misery. It's not easy on my heart, but it's a quick and efficient method that doesn't require any type of special equipment.
