how to seperate feed between chicks and hens

I am trying to figure out how to separate the feed between my laying hens and my chicks when I put them together. My coop is 4x8 with the door to the run on one of the 4' walls with laying boxes all along one of the 8' walls. I am thinking maybe placing the chicks feed inside a dog crate or something small made out of welded wire that the hens can't get into. Any thoughts or suggestions.

It's more harmful for the chicks to get the layer food than vise versa. I normally just let everyone have non medicated chick starter/grower and free choice oyster shell until the chicks are 6 months. The laying hens still lay strong hard eggs.
