How to Sex Cayugas

Hi all!

I am picking up a Cayuga duck on Monday, and I have the option between a 6 week old and a 4 week old. Is there any way to try to get a female? Any differences at those ages? They are being sold as straight run.

I do! I have four others, but couldn’t get Cayugas at either of the other local hatcheries, so this breeder offered me some around the same age as two of my small ducks.

For the 6 week old you might be able to tell, they start changing at 6-8 wks.

The voice could give a hint on the 6 week old. The females voice matures faster than the males.

Yes you can sex them by their voice!! You usually can by 5-6 weeks!
