Help with adult langshan hen chicken.. Ms. Pez. one of these girls in this pic...We started out trying to fix middle largest broken toe. We wrapped it with gauze and tape. Then put the chicken in sling set up within a milk crate. Unfortunately she was determined to get out and when I took her out to clean her crate discovered more breakage. She ended up having 2nd fracture at the base of her foot. ? is HOW to splint both tow and entire foot? Husband was thinking some type of "L" shape.

This poor little lady had had a rough start, now a little over a year. She had trouble hatching, and had splay leg issues and was just wonky from the start. I attempted to treat early on to correct, with some improvement. At about 6 months we believe my biggest guy tried to mate her and she was injured worse. It's almost like she has a bent frame/skeletal system. So we have watched and tried to separate her at times, but trying to keep her within the flock. Now this. Were debating if we needed to cull her, due to the pain she is in. Did do aspirin the first day.

Thanks for your help.

You are probably going to need a shoe type splint, you can make one or buy one, example:

You would tape the toe to it in as close to a normal position as you can, and then wrap the foot and leg. You do need to make sure nothing is too tight, check often for swelling, you don't want to cut the circulation off. I often leave toes alone also, just depends on the toe, if it's very bent under and the bird is walking on it, then I'd splint it. If it's just a little wonky, then I'd probably not worry about it. If it were just the toe you could use a splint that was just a flat piece of plastic (like from a yogurt or sour cream lid , cut to size) and tape the toe to it and wrap it, but if the ankle is broken then you will likely need something more like that pictured.
