how to stop chickens from eating the eggs!

welcome-byc.gif

Have you tried increasing their calcium? Are the constantly cooped and penned? If so, how much room do they have? (Feet x feet) Sometimes it's a bad habit that just can't be corrected, in which case you're right - clean out the freezer! (Or learn how to pressure can and clean out the pantry. Canned chicken is delicious, and oh so handy!) I really don't have any helpful answers or advice - just throwing a few things out there that can cause egg eating.

has anyone tried keeping the beaks trimmed short.
or how about the blinders they use on pheasants to keep them from pecking each other.

This is an old thread. But I can't imagine that anyone would trim the beak of a bird who was eating eggs. IMO, addressing the diet, space/activity needs of the birds, taking the time of year into account (late winter, early spring seem to be the most likely times to have this issue), should take care of the problem. Final fix would be to cull the culprit(s).

I put a rock shaped egg in the nestbox and a hen pecked a small chunk out of it. It didn't hurt her but chipped her beak tip just a bit. She never ate a nother egg.
