A while ago I introduced a younge rooster to my year old hens. He was too young to mate. When we intoduced him, he just ran away from all the hens, and he still is now. He never goes near any of the hens, what do I do to make him comfortable?

Our bird's free range during the day. When we got our new Americana rooster [elegedly 8 months old] the four Road Island red hens beat him up every chance they got. He would not go near them or the chicken house to roost at night. A couple months later he was the boss. If he has a place or way to get away from the hens just give him time.

It was about 3 or 4 months ago. He is about 7 to 8 months old.
When I introduced a young rooster to my flock, he was absolutely terrified at first. He went from being picked on, to hiding, to living at the fringes of the flock. After many, many months he worked his way up in the pecking order, and now absolutely rules the roost. The whole process took several month. Give it time.
