How to stop water trough getting full of rubbish!

So we have moved the flock into their coop a little earlier than planned as it so warm here now and to give them a little more space. However their water trough has been constantly full of dirt, soil, hay, sawdust ever since! How do I stop this?

Put it higher up on blocks/bricks/wood or hang it up higher.

Raise the feeder and waterer, on blocks or something, so that it's about at the level of the smallest chick's back. If the feeder can be hung from the ceiling, do that too.

I had mine at the level of the tallest hen's back and added a half-block for the shorty to stand on.

We used to put the waterers on blocks of wood but it gets moldy after getting wet. So now we just use flat rocks. You could also suspend the feeders from the ceiling with some wire and a screw.

I hang the feeders and put the waterer on cement stepping stones when I'm not using the heated base. .
My outside waterers are on cement blocks.

Same here. I do use some wood blocks for the feeders that don't have 'hanging space' but bricks or concrete blocks are better for waterers. And a step for the really little guys!
Also, those chick feeders you are using will need to be replaced by larger units, even for just a very few birds, for your convenience.

I just swapped my chicks to a nipple waterer so not completely the same but if you really want to elevate things you can get kind of creative with it.
