Ugh, its freezing out!! Temps here are in the high teens. I was wondering how i should store my eggs when they have frozen? I normally store them on the counter but ive gotten my first frozen egg so im not sure if its safe to bring it back to room temperature and use it later this week. Should i just wash it and start storing un-cracked frozen eggs in the fridge until spring temps are back?
Thank you!

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

I would probably put it in the fridge and use it first. Either after it defrosts or even frozen.

What a bummer to get frozen eggs. I know plenty on here deal with it. Some collect more often but I know that isn't always possible. And many store shelled eggs frozen in ice cube trays. But not sure how they deal with already frozen ones.

Another option... cook it up and feed it back to the chooks. They get the shell and all. Though I don't like letting the shell in my non stick pack. Could even be boiled and then taken out and stomped to reveal the yumminess to your little raptor-saurs. :)

I don’t even wash my eggs when I put them in the fridge. I wait until I go to use them to wash. You should be fine to stick them in the fridge after collecting:)

I don't even wash my eggs EVER! I keep my boxes clean and wipe with a dry cloth upon collection. Anything that get's soiled, I guess I do wash those.. before feeding back to the animals. And by wash, I mean knock the waste off and rinse under cold water. Never gotten sick or anyone else YET in 8 years. :)

I should have said that I don’t wash clean eggs lol mine sometimes have mud on them because my chickens like digging but for the most part they are clean

Whenever I get a frozen egg, I just throw it away. I'm curious.. Do thawed frozen eggs taste the same as regular eggs?
When it's freezing out, I collect eggs frequently so that they don't have time to freeze.

Freezing eggs is a known way of preservation. The taste is the same.

At least feeding them back to the chickens means nothing goes to waste. And they are a nutritious treat! Think about it, all chicks have to survive for the first couple days is the yolk they absorbed during hatching. :)
