Where are you located? I've never used a heat lamponce removing from the brooder- we do that between 4-6 weeks when fully feathered. I was nervous at first about them getting cold, but they were fine. We have a little house near the rest of the flock with a small run area. The young feathered chicks have 2-3 weeks separate- the chicks watch the big birds but the grown birds can't attack the littles. Then, between 8-9 weeks, we open things up so the bigs and littles intermingle. We've had no issues. The littles still go back to the house for a while, but at about 14-16 weeks, they start trying to roost with the bigs. As long as the birds can stay dry, I do t worry too much about the cold (but I no longer live in WI, so it's never THAT cold!)
