How to Tell a Fertile vs INfertile Egg (Pictures)

now that you kknow which is fertile, how do you get it back in the shell? anytime I open an egg the shell cracks so bad i dont htink I coud get everything back inside it ??

Yes, those are two different stages, not sure about the hen that lays every day or every three days, maybe so.
md, I, too, have such a hard time getting those back in the shells, LOL. Must be some trick to it!

Great pics I was just wondering this same thing. I don't think I have gotten any fertile eggs yet. Not for the young roo's lack of trying tho.

Cyn, I do have a wierd question was about to email and ask you when I came across this posts, so I thought I would ask here so that others may learn to.

I understand about the bullseye and all that... but what makes the white dot in the first pic?

I think I need to get a new name and call myself "ConfusedOne" since I always seem to be confused LOL...

By the way, I agree with that shell thing, I tried the other day to put the egg back in the shell after finding it was fertile... but I had nothing but problems... hmmm oh well

By the way, I showed my daughters the pics and was teaching them... they though it was the neatest thing and actually want me to print off pictures so they can take to school and teach the other kids for show and tell. Its nice that they have become so involved and interested in all of this!!!

That white dot is called the blastodisc. When it is fertilized and the cells being to divide, it's called the blastoderm. That is what gets fertilized, that white spot.

You're welcome. It wasnt that long ago that even I didn't know what to look for. Hawkeye took so long to fertilize an egg around here, I kept thinking they just had to be fertile and they weren't, LOL. He's a laidback kind of guy.

Very informative! Just a question though, some of were just asking about the color of yolks and yours are so nice and dark what is the secret????
