Hi - I saw somewhere (in a book? online?) some pictures that showed how to tell whether an older hen is still laying. It had to do with the tail position, but I can't find the pictures now. We have a mixed-age flock and a friend is giving away some of hers, and I'd like not to be stuck with a bunch of old hens that don't lay - we're already running a rest home for geriatric chickens! Thanks,
Laura

I don't know about the tail position thing but I know that a hen that is currently laying will have bright red comb and wattles, face. If she is not laying it will be more pink looking.

Oh almost forgot to say
