I have 2-3yr old Rocks, they have always been good layers of brown eggs. Suddenly, one has become sick and stopped laying. I thought maybe water belly but I think she would have died already if it was. The second rock is still laying but her eggs are turning cream colored and one was hard on sides but soft on one end (see picture) Twice now she has layed 2eggs same day. One cream color and the other soft shelled. Today the soft shell was more like wall mud. I took apart and found some blood. They have free range to calcium and the 4 other hens seem to be laying fine. I posted a picture from the past 20 days of how the eggs have been changing. They are in order from when layed. This is not normal but what’s going on?

As hens get older their eggs get paler. As far as I’m aware, the eggs here are typical for a Plymouth Rock, their eggs aren’t usually as brown as a RIR.
My Rocks are 3 yrs old and their eggs have most always been darker brown like the eggs in first picture on top back row. I’ve been noticing some specks of blood on the eggs and she has slowed down to maybe 3eggs a week. The other Rock is not laying at all.

The change in egg colour is nothing to worry about.

How long has she not been laying for?

These are from a marans, but clearly show how eggs get paler with age. They just can’t keep producing enough pigment to keep dark eggs up.
