I just built a 5 gallon waterer for my 3 month old flock and im not sure how to train them to use it? This morning when i came out to check on them both cups were empty so i tapped them to fill them up and a few came over to drink like they were super thirsty... Will they eventually figure it out since they have drank from the cups now? I did take away their other water source... Or do they just drink what they need and leave the cups empty every time?

Put a very small amount of water on the bottom of the cup. Not enough for them to drink out of, but enough for them to peck at. They should hit the trigger and release more water. After they do that, they should catch on quickly.
Check in often to make sure your birds are learning how to drink from the cups. It may take a while.
The key is to provide enough water at the bottom of the cup to interest them, but not enough to let them just drink out of the cups.
