I have a rooster and I’m pretty sure he has worms 😬 how do I treat him! What do you use to treat your birds and what do you use to keep them away!?

Have you seen worms in his droppings? Valbazen is a good dewormer, and the dosage is 0.09 ml per pound or you can round up to 1/2 ml for a 5 pound chicken, 1/4 ml for a bantam, or 3/4 for an extra large chicken. Give it orally once and repeat it in 10 days. Toss eggs for a total of 24 days.

Another popular dewormer is SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer and dosage is 0.25 ml per pound of weight given once and in 10 days for roundworms. For most all chicken worms including capillary (threadworms) and gapeworms, give it for 5 straight day.

Here is some reading about the lifecycle of worms and how they are spread:

Have you found out what kind of worms? Best to get a test so you treat for the right thing. What makes you think he has worms?

I had a hen with worms! She is at another farm now but when they were together it was a long white worm!? I don’t know what kind it was but I think he might have them because they were always together!

Thank you so much

That sounds like a roundworm, the most common chicken worm. Roundworm eggs and other worms and their eggs are not seen without a microscope.

But if I am wrong and I treat him for round worm and he don’t have them will it hurt him? I’m pretty sure he has them because he loves with the hen for a long time but I have not seen anything in his pool but I would feel better if I wormed him?!
