Hello,

I live in Ontario and I am finding it very difficult to find a mite treatment for my hen. She had lice in the past and I had to resort to human lice shampoo, it worked very well (after failed attempts with dog lice treatment). We took in an injured owl, but it had mites and they managed to find my chicken. She has been dusting in wood ash which helps but they keep coming back. When bathed they all rush to the top of her head. As well the mites are feeding off our bodies, not just the chickens.

Does anyone know of a product I can get in Ontario that works? Seems like most standard ones are banned here. Or, do you think human lice shampoo would kill mites as well?

Thank you,

Christina

Anything with Permethrin as the active ingredient should kill any bug. Permethrin is almost certainly what is in the shampoo.

Do some searches (here and Google) for Ivermectin and Frontline. Both are used to treat mites and lice, but I'm not sure about availability where you live.
