How to Treat Scaly Leg Mites

Pics
Reading with interest as I have them - totally my fault I couldn't get to my broody who had them and they got passed on I feel so bad I didnt' deal with it much much earlier but wasnt' 100% it was that and not previous scarring (one of my silkies came with a missing toe). My issue with the oil treatment is that I have never picked my roosters up (taking advice I read on here to the extreme I think of leaving your roosters alone and not handling them :hmm) and can't reach everyone in the coop at night. For this reason considering medication this one time to get it sorted then use other methods in the future the second I see any issues. Not sure if I can even get the stuff you have mentioned here in France.

Maybe your vet recommends.
The problem with using drugs on every problem is the likelihood of greater parasite immunity increases. When there is a major problem that does require these drugs, eventually the parasites will have mutated and the drugs won't work. It's the same with the consumption of anti biotics for every complaint.
Sure, Ivermectin will work, but why bother with it when the problem doesn't require it.
I very rarely use any kind of antibiotics. The exception is for enteritis. Everything else if they get sick I cull them, curled toes gone, sniffle gone, etc...
I do not worm hardly at all. I do However treat regularly for lice and mites. Anyone who thinks their birds don’t have lice doesn’t handle or look close enough at their birds.
Wild song birds will bring mite and lice into your yard along with all kinds of other problems.

Not just my vet, just look at all of the veterinary literature.
Who's using it for every problem? If any livestock get lice, pretty sure many vets will recommend ivermectin or moxidectin.

Why deal with the hassle of applying gobs of Vaseline when it can be dealt with by giving a little ivermectin orally or topically?
I have looked at a lot of literature on Ivermectin. It does get recommended by some vets.
Other vets don't seem quite so keen, particularly for chickens.
The vets for humans here:p are still giving out anti biotics like sweets. Other countries have realised that this might be a bit short sighted.
I don't mind the hassle. I get to look at the chickens more and a few weeks ago through going through the 'hassle' of treating scaly leg mite I noticed an ear infection which I would have otherwise missed.

What kind of mites do your birds get?
