How to wash eggs?

My husband said he read somewhere that you shouldn't get the eggs wet. I have no idea, I saw some egg wash stuff at the feed and seed. Anyway, how is the best way to wash them?

If they have poop on them, I wash them with warm water immediately after collecting them. Otherwise, I wash with warm water just before cracking. I don't like to wash the bloom away since it helps keep the eggs fresher.
