how to we get rid of mice......seeking best method

First thing I did was to stop providing a buffet for the rodents (mostly chipmunks, but some mice). I got rid of the 5 g diy elbow feeder and got a Ratproof Feeder.

Hubby made a 'rolling log' trap, similar to this. It works for mice, rats and chipmunks. You do have to be ok with the animals drowning, as lots of people are not.

I keep feed stored in a metal can and have snap traps with bent metal trigger set all the time in shed outside of actual coop. 2 tips that upped my catch rate exponentially is to shove a sunflower seed tight into hole in trap trigger and put bait end of trap against a wall or other vertical surface like a bog box.
My coop is a 1/2" HC box inside a large shed, they rarely get inside coop, but if they do I set nap traps at night under this mesh basket where the bird can't get at them(they get up way before I do).

Ditto, secure the feed 24/7 in a proper treadle feeder and you will not have a rat problem. You do have to have some full size birds in the flock if you have mostly tiny breeds. If you do a search on this forum and the feeding and watering forum you will find tons of threads and tons of advice ranging from the impractical to the old wives tales. In the end only one thing actually works long term, a good treadle feeder.

Ok BYC friends......what's the latest and "best" method
Bruce

Get a good sized mixing bowl. Put some peanut oil in it. The object here is NOT to drown them but to get them in there and their oily feet won't allow them to climb out. There is a You Tube video about this. Funny at times. But it works. Dispose of them as you see fit in the morning. But please don't re-Home them as they will just come back. Better to buy your own bowl and not use one of your wife's bowl KWIM.
